Monitoreo voluntario de cianobacterias

Cyanobacteria blooms are a common occurrence during the summer months in urban lakes and ponds throughout New England. The blooms can sometimes produce toxins that are harmful to animals and humans. To better understand where and when these blooms occur and to help alert the public of their occurrence, we will be holding bi-weekly volunteer sampling and monitoring events in Roger Williams Park this summer. We will meet at the Seal House, volunteers will disperse throughout the park to collect samples, bring them back to the Seal House, examine the samples under a microscope and analyze them with a fluorometer. Scientists from The Nature Conservancy will lead the sampling event and provide training on the sample collection, identification and data upload process.
