WHO WE ARE
The Stormwater Innovation Center (SIC) is a collaborative initiative dedicated to improving water quality and stormwater management in Rhode Island. From green infrastructure research to professional trainings to community science programs, we lead a wide range of initiatives addressing stormwater challenges comprehensively. Through collaborative projects with government, non-profits, and industry partners, we connect research, education, and real-world implementation to build a cleaner, more resilient future for Rhode Island’s waterways.

Stormwater PSA
Don’t let stormwater be the bad guy! When it collects pollutants from roofs, driveways, and roadways, it flows into storm drains and directly into our water bodies. This can lead to harmful algal blooms, sometimes even closing lakes, ponds, and beaches to the public. Watch our PSA to learn how you can make a difference, and visit our Stormwater At Home page to discover more ways to minimize harm from home.
Volunteer with
RainSnap
The Stormwater Innovation Center is enlisting volunteers to actively engage with stormwater monitoring in urban communities. By using RainSnap to upload photos and videos of green infrastructure taken during storms, the functionality of these structures can be assessed. Community participation will result in more effective stormwater solutions, less flooding, and improved water quality. Visit RainSnap.org to sign up today!
Check out one of our latest projects the City of Providence’s Treatment Train at Roger Williams Park. This innovative system is designed to filter polluted water from the Mashapaug Pond watershed before it flows into the park’s ponds.
